Dana—the cultivation of generosity
MEMBERSHIP
O-An Zendo would not be here without the financial support of our sangha and friends.
If you have visited O-An, you can understand and appreciate what a peaceful place it is to practice. If you are able to join us on our weekly Zoom sessions, you know how fulfilling it is to share our “world-wide” Sangha. In order to maintain our beautiful Zendo, continue to support online practice, and to preserve the teachings for all seeking liberation, membership is encouraged.
If you have benefited from practice at O-An or wish to support the opportunity for others, we encourage you to make a commitment of generosity by becoming a member.
Regular memberships — $300 a year or $25 a month
Student memberships — $180 a year or $15 a month
Family memberships — $480 a year or $40 a month

DANA
O-An Zendo is financially self-supporting through regular memberships, donations (dana), and contributions of time and materials by its sangha, visitors, and friends.
What is Dana?
“Dana” is a Sanskrit word meaning “generosity,” the First Perfection of Buddhist Practice. It is customary to offer Dana when you visit the Zendo or participate in on-line services. No person is excluded from practice for want of Dana, and no Dana is refused.
When is Dana offered?
A donation of $10 each time you visit or join services shows your gratitude for the place, for our Guiding Teacher, and for all who serve our practice.
What is Teacher Dana?
Teacher Dana is also an expression of gratitude and we encourage all who have introductory meetings, Dokusan, and other individual discussions with Meido to offer Dana directly to her. We suggest at least $25 for an hour of Meido's time to show your gratitude for the transmission of wisdom. Meido also welcomes exchanges of service when the financial exchange is not possible. You may discuss this with her personally.
O-An Zendo is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and all donations are tax deductible.

SAMU
Samu means “work practice,” an important part of Zen life. Caring for the Zendo and grounds is done silently, mindfully, without attachment to results. The Zendo and its grounds always needs maintenance, cleaning, and repairs. Our community can also use your knowledge, skills, and commitment through participation in the board, committees, event-planning.
PRACTICE TEAM
Growing together as a Sangha and deepening your personal practice are both gifts that can result from being part of the Practice Team. Please consider serving in one or all of the practice roles: Doshi (Teacher), Doan (Service Leader), Han Player (sounding the wooden gong to call Sangha to the Zendo), Jisha (preparing the altar and responding to needs of practitioners). If you would like to learn more about the roles, please speak with our Ino.
